Fareeha Zafar

Dr. Fareeha Zafar is currently a Professor at the Graduate Institute of Development Studies, Lahore School of Economics where she has been working since 2013 teaching courses and supervising research on gender, population and education issues. She graduated from Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore and did her Masters in Geography from the University of the Punjab where she taught for several years before going on for a Phd from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London University. Dr. Zafar has twice been a Fulbright Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley and at Vassar College in the US. In 1990 she was designated as Director of the Women Studies Institute at the Punjab University. After teaching for 25 years she left the university and became the Director of the Society for the Advancement of Education (SAHE) where she managed several projects relating to education with special focus on the education of girls. She has also consulted with the World Bank, the UN and several other international development agencies, and, has travelled widely in the course of her work. Dr. Zafar is the author of two books, and has edited a number of books on issues related to women. She is also a founding member of the Women’s Action Forum (WAF) an organization for women’s rights set up in 1981.
