Muhammad Hasan Zafar

Dr. Zafar holds a PhD and MPhil in Film and Television Studies from the University of Glasgow, where he also taught film theory. He is currently Assistant Professor of Film at the Lahore School of Economics, where he lectures on film production and cinematic theory, while also advising on curriculum development for the Department of Media Studies, Art, and Design. His academic contributions extend to his roles on the Board of Studies at the University of the Punjab (Film & Broadcasting) and previously at the University of Central Punjab (English Literature), influencing the pedagogical direction of media education in Pakistan.

Dr. Zafar’s teaching and research reflect a deep engagement with the interplay between media, ideology, and global politics. He brings to his lectures a distinctive synthesis of theoretical insight and practical experience, offering civil service professionals a nuanced understanding of how media shapes public perception, influences policy, and operates within broader geopolitical frameworks. His sessions are designed to foster critical reflection, strategic thinking, and a sharper awareness of the information landscapes that define governance in the 21st century.

In addition to his academic career, Dr Hasan Zafar is a seasoned political analyst and media practitioner, whose distinguished career spans over two decades of work in journalism, broadcasting, and geopolitical commentary. He currently serves as President of Federal Post, a prominent digital platform that provides incisive analysis on national and international political developments, societal trends, and economic discourse. As a regular contributor to The Friday Times, he offers critical perspectives on foreign policy and statecraft, with a particular focus on South Asia and the evolving global order.

Dr. Zafar’s journalistic journey began in the early 1990s with the Dawn Group of Newspapers and The Nation, where he worked as a features reporter and sub-editor respectively. He later served as a newsreader at Radio Pakistan, gaining valuable experience in broadcast communication and voice training. His tenure at ATV and Film Arts Associates saw him producing a range of televised and documentary content, covering themes as diverse as tourism, rural development, and cultural heritage in Pakistan’s northern regions. These early experiences laid the foundation for his enduring engagement with media, narrative, and public discourse.
