Umbreen Javaid
Prof Dr. Umbreen Javaid is Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the Lahore School of Economics. She did her Masters in Defense and Strategic Studies from the Quaid-e-Azam University and also received her doctorate degree from the same university. She also attended courses at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. She was Dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences, remained the Director of Center of South Asian Studies, and also Chaired the Department of Political Science at the University of the Punjab.
She received her Presidential Pride of Performance award in 2018, and is also a recipient of HEC’s Best University Teacher Award. She is the author of 14 books i.e. “South Asia & the World”, “Kashmir Dispute in South Asia”, “Pakistan fights Extremism & Terrorism”, etc. She has published more than 140 research articles mainly “Politics of Religious Extremism in Pakistan”, “War on Terror: Pakistan’s apprehensions”, “Governance Issues among Provincial & Federal Governments: A Causative Analysis of Pakistan & Way Forward COVID-19”, etc., and has supervised more than 60 PhD theses. Her research interests are extremism, terrorism, national security, South Asia and domestic politics. She established the Indian Study Desk and pioneered the Diploma in Indian Studies program at PU, the first of their nature in Pakistan. She also actively contributes to the National Security Division, where she regularly submits policy input papers.
